Toronto's Greektown

Jan.16, 2005 Toronto's Greektown real estate market: Greektown on the Danforth

Driving east, Bloor St. turns into the Danforth. Immigrants from Greece moved into the area in the early 20th century giving the shops, restaurants and cafes a Greek and Mediterranean atmosphere. Most of these buildings are along the main strip making it a great place to hangout. In the summer, bars and restaurants are open late into the night allowing people to enjoy the Danforth almost 24 hours a day! Many of the bars and restaurants have outdoor patios where one can sit and enjoy a drink or a bite to eat, and people-watch.

This part of Toronto holds two big celebrations: Sounds of the Danforth in July at the Logan/Danforth Parkette, and Krinos Taste of the Danforth in August. More than one million people attend the latter event, which features live music and food from all over the world.

With plenty of houses to choose from, both north and south of the Danforth, the area is great for families with children. There are plenty of public schools to choose from, and the Danforth is right on the main subway line making it easy for commuters to get in and out of downtown Toronto. Houses in this area run from anywhere between $100,000 to over 700,000.
